Fatal Stabbing near George Washington University Marks City’s Fourth Homicide of the Year.

WASHINGTON, DC — February 5, 2026: Metropolitan Police investigate a fatal stabbing in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington, D.C. An adult male was pronounced dead at Miriam’s Kitchen, a nonprofit organization that assists the homeless. The incident marks the city’s fourth homicide of 2026.

WASHINGTON – The Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a fatal stabbing following an incident at a homeless kitchen in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood on Thursday night.

Police were called to Miriam’s Kitchen, a non-profit working with the homeless, after a man reportedly stabbed another man at that location.

Law enforcment including the US Secret Service responded to the call and found a man unconscious and not breathing who was later pronounced dead on the scene. Initial reports indicate that police may have take one person into custody in connection with this case.

The stabbing marks the fourth homicide reported in the city in 2026, down 78% from last year at this time.

The GWHatchet student newspaper reported that the kitchen will be closed until Monday.
