Metrobus Crashes into Popular Restaurant in Shaw

WASHINGTON – A Washington Metropolitan Transit Authorityy (WMATA) bu crashed into a restaurant after a collision with an SUV at 7th and Q Street NW this morning.

The bus, which was traveling southbound on 7th Street, collided with an SUV in the intersection and swerved into the Ambar Restaurant at 1547 7th Street NW. The restaurant was not open at the time of the accident.

DC Fire and EMS reported that three adult females were transported from the scene, including the bus driver, all with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the passenger car was treated on the scene.

DC Department of Building engineers are still on the scene along with emergency crews from the DC Fire Department and WMATA to arrange for the removal of the bus and the shoring up of the building to prevent collapse. It is unknown at this time how long the restaurant will remain closed.

This intersection and restaurant were the scene of another accident in 1997, when a bus also crashed into the property at 1547 7th Street, leaving the building damaged and vacant for many years until it was recently renovated.
