Three Killed in DC in Most Violent Day in Months

The Metropolitan Police Department investigate the fatal shooting of a woman, the wounding of a juvenile, and the kidnapping of a 3-year-old in the Glover Park neighborhood of Washington DC on February 11, 2026. The suspect was later found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but the 3-year-old is still missing and subject to an AMBER alert.

Three separate violent incidents — including a domestic shooting, a fire-related homicide and a fatal officer-involved shooting involving federal authorities — left three people dead Wednesday across Washington, marking one of the most turbulent days in the District this year.

The most dramatic episode unfolded in the afternoon in the Glover Park neighborhood of Northwest Washington, where a woman was fatally shot, and her 10-year-old child was wounded in what authorities described as a domestic dispute in the 4100 block of W Street NW.

The Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of gunfire and found the woman suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The child was transported to a hospital with nonfatal injuries.

Police quickly identified a suspect and issued a citywide lookout for the vehicle believed to be involved. During the investigation, officers learned that a 3-year-old child was missing and possibly abducted, prompting an AMBER alert.

Several hours later, officers in Prince George’s County spotted the suspect’s vehicle and initiated a pursuit that crossed back into the District. MPD units and a police helicopter joined the chase, which ended after the vehicle crashed in the 3000 block of Nash Place SE. Authorities said the suspect was found inside with a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound. The 3-year-old was not in the vehicle but was later located safely at a relative’s home.

Earlier Wednesday, police were called to a fire in the 1400 block of Rhode Island Avenue NW. Firefighters extinguished a blaze inside an apartment and discovered a man unconscious with blunt force trauma and thermal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. MPD homicide detectives are investigating the case as a homicide. The victim was identified as Syed Hammad Hussain of Northwest Washington.

In a separate incident about 2:12 p.m., MPD received a report of a person making threats with a firearm near Kenilworth Terrace and Hayes Street NE. Sixth District officers located the victim of what police described as a “threat to kidnap or injure” offense.

Members of the United States Marshals Service and the United States Park Police located the suspect in the 3700 block of Hayes Street NE. A deputy U.S. marshal discharged a firearm, striking the suspect, authorities said. The man was pronounced dead after life-saving efforts failed.

Officials identified him as 43-year-old Julian Marquette Bailey of Northeast Washington. No MPD officers were present at the time shots were fired.

The involvement of federal agencies comes amid President Donald Trump’s recently announced “surge” of additional federal law enforcement resources into the District, a move that has increased the visible presence of agencies such as the Marshals Service and Park Police in joint operations.

The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by MPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau Force Investigations Team, which reviews all law enforcement shootings in the District.
