WASHINGTON: A shooting along the D.C.-Maryland border left one person dead Monday after a gunman opened fire in a parking lot near Benning Road, according to police and witnesses.
The shooting occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a 24 Market and Discount Liquor store next to a Shell gas station, near where the District meets Prince George’s County.
Witnesses said the victim was sitting in a chair when he was shot multiple times. A snow cone stand had been set up on a bench nearby, with a pop-up tent close by.
D.C. police issued a lookout for a black Acura four-door sedan believed to be connected to the shooting. The vehicle was described as having heavy window tint and a sunroof.
Witnesses said a shooting had also occurred in the area the previous day, though it was not immediately clear whether that incident was connected to Monday’s violence.
The circumstances leading to the shooting remained unclear. Benning Road near the D.C.-Maryland border was closed Monday afternoon as police investigated.
