Washington — The Metropolitan Police Department has released additional images of 18-year-old Naqwan Antonio Lucas, wanted in connection with the June 30 shooting that killed 21-year-old Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, a congressional intern from Granby, Massachusetts.

Police say officers responded to reports of gunfire around 10:28 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025 in the 1200 block of 7th Street NW. Three people were found shot: Tarpinian-Jachym, who later died at a hospital, a woman, and a 16-year-old boy, both of whom survived.
Two other suspects — 17-year-olds Kelvin Thomas and Jailen Lucas — were arrested in early September and charged with first-degree murder while armed. Lucas remains at large. Authorities are offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction.
Eric Tarpinian-Jachym was a rising senior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he studied finance with a minor in political science. He had secured a summer internship in Washington, D.C., working in the office of Representative Ron Estes (R-Kansas).
In August, President Trump invoked Section 740 of the D.C. Home Rule Act to place the Metropolitan Police Department under federal control, declaring a “public safety emergency” in Washington. He then dispatched hundreds of D.C. National Guard troops, along with federal agents from the FBI, DEA, ICE and others, to patrol the city under centralized command.
Results of the surge have been mixed, with crime numbers dropping from a mid-summer spike in July, but still above the average daily number of crimes per day in 2025.
