15-Year-Old Arrested After Six Day Crime Spree in Southeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 15-year-old youth has been arrested and charged after allegedly carrying out a brazen seven separate offenses over a span of just six days across Southeast Washington, D.C.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the spree began on September 12 and extended through September 18, during which the teenager is accused of:

  • Four carjackings (both armed and unarmed)
  • Two robberies
  • One assault

The schedule of attacks included an unarmed carjacking in the early morning on September 12, followed later that day by a simple assault in the 3200 block of Buena Vista Terrace, Southeast. On September 13, the suspect allegedly robbed a pedestrian by threat or fear. On September 16, the teen is accused of an armed carjacking, confronting a victim with a knife while they sat on a scooter. And on September 18, he allegedly committed two armed robberies and another attempt at carjacking while brandishing a knife.

Investigators arrested the juvenile on September 24, charging him with all seven counts tied to the spree. He is reported to have no fixed address.

This arrest comes amid heightened federal oversight over crime in the nation’s capital. Former President Donald Trump announced on August 11 a surge of federal officers, National Guard troops, and a takeover of D.C.’s police department, but the results have been mixed.

Trump’s rhetoric has resonated in some circles, reigniting debates over who bears responsibility for policing the District and how aggressive crime-fighting measures should be. His push aligns with the kind of swift crackdown that many law-and-order proponents argue is necessary to contain violent outbreaks and deter recidivism.
