A D.C. man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left another man wounded Friday evening in the Glover Park neighborhood of Northwest Washington, police said.
Around 5:06 p.m. on June 13, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Second District responded to a report of gunfire at a residence in the 2300 block of 37th Street NW. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds, including a gunshot to the leg. The victim was conscious and breathing when first responders arrived and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigators quickly reviewed video surveillance from the scene that showed the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle fleeing the area.
A short time later, an officer with the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division spotted the suspect, who was subsequently stopped and taken into custody without incident.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Lorenzo Belton of Northwest D.C., has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), police said.
Officials praised the rapid coordination between MPD and the U.S. Secret Service, noting the arrest was made possible through interagency collaboration.
Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting. The victim’s condition as of Saturday morning has not been publicly released. The investigation remains ongoing.
