Montgomery County Police responded Thursday morning to reports of an active shooter near the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, prompting a swift law enforcement presence in the area.

At approximately 10:24 a.m., officers from the 2nd District were dispatched to the 8900 block of Rockville Pike after receiving a call reporting a possible active shooter. Authorities quickly secured the scene and took one individual into custody. The man was found to be in possession of what police later confirmed was a fake gun.

“There is no threat to the community,” the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) said in a public statement. “The scene is secure, and there were no injuries reported.”

Initial reports of an active shooter near such a high-profile medical and military facility caused brief alarm. However, MCPD emphasized that the situation was quickly brought under control, and no actual firearm or dangerous weapon was involved.

Law enforcement officials did not immediately release further information regarding the identity of the man or a potential motive for the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
