WASHINGTON–DC Police have announced they have a suspect wanted in the connection with the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old girl last week.
Officers from the First District responded at approximately 3:03 a.m. on July 5, 2025, to the 1000 block of 14th Street SE, following reports of a shooting. They found a 3‑year‑old girl suffering a gunshot wound to the upper body. D.C. Fire and EMS transported her to a hospital, where she remained in critical condition.
On Monday, July 7, the child—later identified as Honesty Cheadle, a Southeast, D.C. resident—succumbed to her injuries.
Detectives from MPD’s Major Case Squad have identified a suspect: 24‑year‑old Charles Rucker of Southeast, D.C., who is now wanted under a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant for First Degree Murder while Armed.
A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible. In partnership, the FBI Washington Field Office and the U.S. Marshals Service have contributed additional funds—$15,000 and $10,000 respectively—bringing the total possible reward to $50,000.
