Washington, D.C. — A police helicopter helped track down two 19-year-old suspects on Monday after shots were fired in Southeast Washington, prompting a vehicle chase and a barricade situation in Northeast, according to D.C. police.
Around 4:38 p.m., officers with the Metropolitan Police Department were in the 3000 block of Stanton Road SE when they heard multiple gunshots nearby. Although no one was struck, responding officers saw a vehicle speeding away from the scene and requested aerial support.
MPD’s helicopter, Falcon 1, trailed the car through city streets to the 1700 block of West Virginia Avenue NE, where two individuals fled into a residence. A police barricade was declared, and members of the Emergency Response Team were deployed. After several hours, the suspects were taken into custody without incident.

Police recovered multiple firearms and the vehicle used in the flight.
The suspects — Michael Brown of Southeast D.C. and Shemar Morris of Northeast D.C. — were each charged with Endangerment with a Firearm, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Carrying a Pistol Without a License, Destruction of Property, Unlawful Use of a Vehicle, and Unlawful Entry.
Authorities have not said what prompted the gunfire but emphasized the rapid coordination between patrol officers, aviation units, and tactical teams. The investigation remains ongoing.
