Secret Service and National Guard Capture Armed Robber in Downtown D.C.; Suspect had Been Freed in Earlier Stolen Car Case

The US Secret Service and National Guard took into custody an armed robbery suspect in downtown Washington who was on pre-trial release from an earlier stolen car and illegal weapons charge in July.

According to police reports filed with the Superior Court for the District of Columbia, Brandon C. Stallworth, 20, was arrested on November 9 following a robbery inside a lounge at 825 10th Street NW, just blocks from Pennsylvania Avenue. Investigators say Stallworth, wearing a ski mask and armed with a black semi-automatic handgun, confronted a man on the second floor of the building and ordered him at gunpoint to hand over luxury items, including Cartier sunglasses, Lanvia Paris shoes, a Moncler hat, an iPhone 12 Pro Max, and a Sprayground backpack.

Video surveillance captured the assailant pointing the firearm at the victim and forcing him to place the stolen property into his own backpack before fleeing the area on foot. The victim was later seen on building cameras at the ground-floor reception area as the suspect shoved past him while escaping.

The victim flagged down a passing US Secret Service cruiser who began pursuing the suspect, who was later apprehended by members of the National Guard who held him down until police could take him into custody.

Stallworth faces multiple felony charges, including armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Court records show that Stallworth had been released earlier this year after a July 1 incident in which he fled from a stolen Toyota sedan during a multi-jurisdictional pursuit that began in Prince George’s County and ended near 60th and Clay Streets NE. Officers at the time reported a weapon recovery in that case, but Stallworth was later released pending trial.

Stallworth remains in custody awaiting his initial court appearance this week.
