A surge of armed robberies rippled across the District late Friday into early Saturday, with at least seven incidents reported in just over 12 hours, according to police alerts.
The incidents, which stretched from Southeast to Adams Morgan, rattled residents across several wards and underscored the persistence of street crime even as citywide violent crime trends have shown improvement in recent months.
The first robbery was reported shortly before 3 p.m. Friday in the 4500 block of Jay Street NE, where a suspect confronted a delivery driver before fleeing in a vehicle. By evening, more cases began unfolding in quick succession.
At 8 p.m., a suspect dressed in all black robbed a victim along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE. Roughly two hours later, a group of five carried out a robbery on M Street SE before escaping down Minnesota Avenue. Just minutes later, another robbery was reported nearby on Good Hope Road SE, involving two masked suspects armed with a handgun.
The crime alerts continued into the night. Around 11:45 p.m., three masked men armed with handguns robbed a victim on North Carolina Avenue NE. In Adams Morgan, a pair of men in all-black clothing was reported in connection with a midnight robbery on Columbia Road NW. The final case of the night occurred around 12:30 a.m. Saturday on 15th Street NE, where three armed men confronted another victim, one of them brandishing a rifle.
Despite the show of weapons in several of the incidents, police said no injuries were reported.

Police data show the city has averaged about four robberies a day this year. Friday’s cluster—seven robberies concentrated in a half-day span—was nearly four times that pace.
The robberies come as additional federal and local law enforcement resources remain deployed across the District as part of a broader effort to curb violent crime. Officials have credited the initiative with reducing homicides and other violent offenses, though Friday’s surge demonstrated how quickly localized spikes can occur.
