Two Men Killed in Kingman Park Shooting as DC Homicides Remain Below Last Year’s Pace

Police are investigating a double homicide in the Kingman Park neighborhood of Northeast D.C. after two men were fatally shot just after midnight on Sunday.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District were patrolling near the 1800 block of D Street NE around 12:03 a.m. when they heard the sound of gunfire. Upon searching the area, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were unconscious and unresponsive. Emergency medical crews responded, but the men were pronounced dead on the scene.

Authorities identified the victims as 30-year-old Quonzay Lynch of Northeast D.C. and 41-year-old Cortney Burley of Southeast D.C.

The department’s Homicide Branch is leading the investigation. No arrests had been announced as of Sunday evening. Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for each victim—$50,000 in total—for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

The shooting occurred amid a year that has so far seen 79 homicides in the District, according to MPD data. That figure is down from the same point last year, when 85 homicides had been recorded citywide.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call (202) 727-9099 or send anonymous tips by text to 50411.
