DC Officials Crack Down on Unlicensed Vendors on National Mall

District officials towed 32 food trucks, removed five abandoned vehicles, and issued 46 citations last week in a coordinated sweep of the National Mall targeting unlicensed and noncompliant vendors.

The May 30 enforcement action was led by the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP) in coordination with several local and federal agencies, including the U.S. Park Police, D.C. Health, and the Department of Public Works.

Officials said the operation was aimed at addressing growing concerns about overcrowding, food safety violations, and unregulated vending around the popular tourist areas.

DLCP inspectors also spoke with vendors about licensing requirements and how to operate legally in the District.

The agency said it plans to continue monitoring vending activity near the Mall throughout the summer. Complaints about illegal vending can be submitted through the DLCP website.
