Two people were killed in separate shootings across Washington, D.C. last night, continuing a string of murders across the city in recent weeks.

The first homicide occurred in the 1800 block of Q Street SE, where officers responded to reports of gunfire and found one person suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not yet released the victim’s name or any details about possible suspects.

The second fatal shooting happened in the 1200 block of Meigs Place NE in the Trinidad neighborhood. This marks the second killing on that same block in less than three weeks. On May 16, 17-year-old Travon Johnson was shot and killed there around 11:30 p.m., according to a police press release. Authorities have not yet indicated whether last night’s incident is related to the earlier killing.

The area around Meigs Place NE has seen increased police activity in recent days. On May 26, officers arrested two suspects connected to a separate shooting on Stanton Road SE, and the operation led to a barricade situation in the same general area. That case involved multiple law enforcement units and ended with the apprehension of both individuals, according to police.

D.C. Police have not confirmed any links between the two most recent homicides or between last night’s shooting and the prior violence in Trinidad, though local residents have reported they feel a feud has developed between gangs in the area and is playing out with these recent incidents.

These are the 70th and 71st homicides in the year 2025, and the 14th homicide in the last 14 days. On this date in 2024, the District had recorded 73 homicides.

Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact MPD’s tip line at (202) 727-9099 or via text at 50411.
